Lewis Hamilton & Formula One

What is Formula One? Or should we mention it as F1?
As Gen Z, we prefer to say F1 as a generation of people to go with something shortened as usual.
F1 is one of the motorsports that attracts more fans regardless of their gender or nationality. One of the most expensive and highest class of worldwide racing for open wheel single seater formula racing cars. They have a set of rules, actually high technology requirements and standards need to be followed.
If you are an early 2000’s born and interested in F1, then whoever you support on the grid, Sir Lewis Hamilton is one of your favourites. Why? Because of his prime time in F1 was during the era which we as Gen Z started to watch motorsports. Starting from 2008, with 7 F1 World Drivers’ Championships, he inspired a whole new generation to watch as well as participate in the motorsports. Nowadays most of the F1 drivers on the track are Gen Z themselves. Most of their inspiration is Sir Lewis Hamilton.
In 2025, Hamilton made a high profile move to Ferrari from Mercedes after being dominated in the hybrid era. He used to drive the most dominant Formula One Car “The W11 – Mercedes AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance” of Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team raced in the 2020 Formula One Race Championship won both Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships.
Lewis Hamilton’s Impact on the Gen Z
But why he is considered as one of the legends in motorsports and how it is an impact on Gen Z? He is the first Black F1 Driver in the history of motorsports. Hamilton’s rise challenged the sport’s elitist and racially homogeneous history, inspiring young fans from diverse backgrounds to see themselves in motorsports. He’s vocal about racial equality, mental health, and environmental issues values that deeply align with Gen Z’s priorities.
We all know Gen Z is more interested in the entertainment industry than others. Probably he used the chance. Because of his influence, Netflix collaborated with F1 to produce a series called “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” to give behind the scenes about drivers and the races. One season per year started in 2019, in total 7 seasons were produced successfully with the higher viewership of young fans.
The most impactful aspect of the F1 film released in 2025 especially for Gen Z is how it blends cinematic storytelling with real life racing drama, creating a visceral, immersive experience that mirrors the way Gen Z consumes and connects with content.
Hamilton is one of the producers of the film, and his influence led the directors to capture the raw reality of F1 racing keeping audiences on the edge of their seats with nail-biting intensity and unscripted feel from actual Grand Prix races attracts the Gen Z. Joining forces with Hamilton behind the scenes is Hollywood legend Brad Pitt, who stars in the film as a seasoned driver making a dramatic comeback bringing cinematic gravitas to a story rooted in real racing intensity. It’s not just a racing movie, its fashion, music, activism, and adrenaline rolled into one, reflecting Gen Z’s multifaceted interests.

How the F1 Film Speaks Gen Z’s Language
- Authenticity – The films unscripted behind the scence moments are appreciated by Gen Z.
- Star Power Meets Racing Power – The Gen Z knows most of the Hollywood icons but from this film they got the chance to get to know about the racing icons.
- Always on engagement
- Identity & Emotion
- Cultural Fusion – It’s a global mixtape. Blend Monaco’s luxury with Tokyo’s streetwear, Afrobeat rhythms with Silverstone Grid. It’s something Gen Z pay more attention.
