The 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix has flipped the Formula 1 championship on its head. In a dramatic post-race twist, both McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been disqualified after failing post-race inspection. The FIA confirmed that the rear skid wear on both MCL39 cars was below the minimum 9mm thickness, leading to their removal from the final results.
Las Vegas GP Results Overturned
Originally, Norris finished P2 and Piastri P4, but with both disqualified, the podium reshuffles:
- Max Verstappen retains his win and now sits level on points with Piastri (366).
- George Russell inherits P2, and
- Kimi Antonelli moves up to P3, marking another career-best for the Mercedes rookie.
Lando Norris, despite the DSQ, remains championship leader with 390 points, but the gap has narrowed dangerously. With just two rounds left Qatar and Abu Dhabi the title fight is officially a three-way war.
Title Battle: Norris vs Piastri vs Verstappen
The Las Vegas GP was already tense. Norris had taken pole in wet conditions, Verstappen battled through a tricky strategy, and Piastri looked set to close the gap. But the disqualification changes everything.
- Norris: Still leads, but now under pressure. His pole streak and race pace are undeniable, but McLaren’s technical error could cost him the crown.
- Piastri: Level with Verstappen, hungry for redemption. The rookie has shown consistency and aggression all season.
- Verstappen: The reigning champion is back in contention. From pit lane to podiums, his Vegas win was vintage Max.
What’s Next?
The championship now heads to Qatar (Nov 28–30) and Abu Dhabi (Dec 5–7). With just 24 points separating the top three, every lap, every pit stop, and every technical detail could decide the 2025 Formula 1 World Champion.

Expect fireworks. Expect drama. And expect the unexpected!
