Da’Vine In Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers,” Joy Randolph played a cafeteria manager at a boarding school who is grieving the loss of her son who died in the Vietnam War. This win gave Randolph the first Oscar of the evening for best supporting actress.

Jimmy Kimmel, the host of the Oscars, was targeted by Donald Trump on social media, but Kimmel made sure to have the last laugh. In a cutting Truth Social tweet during the program, Trump attacked Kimmel’s hosting gig and the “really bad politically correct” Oscars presentation.
The presumed Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, commented, “Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars.”.”His introduction conveyed the image of someone who is not your typical person, striving excessively to be someone they are not, and will never be.” Trump shot back, saying, “Get rid of Kimmel and maybe replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC ‘talent,’ Georgia Slopanopoulos.” Kimmel read the crowd Trump’s post prior to the best picture presentation at the show. Kimmel started the post by saying, “I just got a review, and I wanted to share it with you,” and then she read much of the content before concluding with the ad lib “blah blah blah.” To laughter from the crowd, Kimmel said, “See if you can guess which former president just posted that on Truth Social.” “Who’s there?”. “Thank you for watching, President Trump. I appreciate it.” Isn’t your jail term over? Kimmel broke. “He’s definitely paying attention to the important stuff.”

Big Winners and Surprises:

Oppenheimer’s Triumph and Tribulation: Despite leading the nominations, “Oppenheimer” had a mixed bag. Christopher Nolan won Best Director, and the film dominated technical categories like Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing. However, it lost Best Picture to “Poor Things” and Cillian Murphy, though nominated, lost Best Actor to a surprise win by Robert Downey Jr. for his supporting role in “Oppenheimer.”

“Poor Things” Makes a Splash: Adapted from a complex novel, “Poor Things” surprised many with its critical acclaim and award success. Emma Stone’s captivating performance as the lead secured her a Best Actress win, while the film also took home Best Production Design and Best Costume Design, awards that highlighted its visual brilliance.

Snubs and Shutouts: Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated “Killers of the Flower Moon” received 10 nominations but went home empty-handed, sparking discussions about Oscars 2024 season bias. Additionally, several critically acclaimed performances, including Viola Davis for her role in “The Woman King,” were snubbed entirely from the Best Actress category.

Memorable Moments:

Politics and Protest: The ceremony wasn’t without its serious moments. Protests against the ongoing conflict in Gaza took place near the Dolby Theatre, raising awareness about the situation.

A Touch of Whimsy: Jimmy Kimmel’s hosting incorporated humor and lightheartedness. The rumored staged streaker incident, though unconfirmed, became a talking point, adding a touch of the unexpected.

Barbie Steals the Show (Musically): While “Barbie” itself didn’t win any major awards, Ryan Gosling’s reprisal of his role as Ken in a musical number “I’m Just Ken” became a viral sensation, praised for its playful energy and catchy song.
